“It actually doesn’t take much to be considered a difficult woman. That’s why there are so many of us.”
― Jane Goodall
Happy New Moon in Taurus and a happy belated Easter and 4/20 to all who celebrate. I’m not going to mention Earth Day because I firmly believe that every day of the year is Earth Day, and we should all treat it as such.
Once again, I found myself wanting to write about three different topics, and decided to let the tarot card I pulled lead the way. Let’s get right into it.
Page of Swords
What a card to pull on a New Moon! Divine insight, crystal clarity, and/or a lightning-strike “aha” moment is coming soon.
If you’ve been feeling like something needs to change but don’t know where to start, this card shows that the guidance you seek will come to you in a razor-sharp, concise manner with no anxiety, self-doubt, or emotional befuddlement attached.
It might show up by way of intuitive download during meditation (or in the shower, while washing dishes, taking a walk, or whatever you do to let your mind defragment). Or, you might connect with someone who shows you the way, whether deliberately or by happy accident.
When this flash of insight arrives, it will feel electrifying – like what Liz Gilbert refers to as a “full-body yes.” You won’t be able to ignore it.
In that moment, all the other things that didn’t work out or didn’t feel right will find their places as stepping stones leading to this absolute diamond of an idea.
The catch is that you must trust this divine guidance to take you on the first step without any long-term plan laid out.
This is a card of discovery calls, not necessarily one of signing contracts.
The insight you receive is more likely to lead you somewhere you’ve never been, even if the entire journey plays out in your head. Being in the suit of swords, intellectual pursuits and verbal communication are key themes.
If you have a chakra-clearing practice, now is a good time to work on your crown. For those who don’t and want to try, you can mimic the woman pictured on this card. Get comfortable, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths to ground yourself. Then, place your hands on the top of your head and envision a ball of light right over your crown. Continue holding this vision for a few minutes, or however long feels good to you.
Powerful women
In my life, the Page of Swords is coming in the form of encounters with inspiring women.
First and foremost, I’m continuing to delve into my ancestry as part of my death doula training. The wisdom and protective guidance of the women who came before me in my family have emboldened me with a new sense of courage to confront harmful patterns that affect my relationships to this day. Fostering a connection with these ancestors has awakened a more holistic sense of compassion and forgiveness, and clarity about some baggage I’ve been carrying that doesn’t even belong to me.
I also feel inspired and supported by the powerful women participating in the Mt. Shasta Goddess Temple.
This has opened my eyes to the many other powerful women popping into my daily life. I’m grateful to work for a managing editor who’s kind, supportive, and sharp as a tack. She attended a peaceful protest at City Hall last week and captured some photos that inspired me further.
Here's a link to the web article you should be able to view for free.
You can scroll through the photos, but I think the most moving image is featured. The one with a crowd of people surrounding a group of older women sitting with their spinning wheels. There’s something about this image of women sitting and spinning among a crowd of protestors that gives me big Page of Swords energy without the words to go along with it. The picture says it all.
Speaking of powerful women, I’ve been watching Yellowjackets, or, as I like to call it, “creepy girl squad.”
I love it.
It’s like a cross between Lord of the Flies, Alive, and Stranger Things. Taking place in NJ in the 90s, it also hits the nostalgia factor.
If you decide to watch it, I warn you that we generally avoid watching this show while we eat dinner or right before bed. It has some seriously gory and horrifying scenes. But it also has Christina Ricci, so it all balances out.
One of my favorite parts of Yellowjackets is not only the powerful women but also the amazing soundtrack. “Lightning Crashes” by Live was featured recently, and it reminded me of how damn good that song is. The way it starts so soft and solemn, with minimal instrumentation, and then builds to a full chorus of wailing voices. If a song can still give you the chills 30 years later, you know it’s good.
I’ve been blasting it on repeat in my Jeep.
So, friends, I leave you with this.
If you feel so inclined, please share any divine guidance or insights you receive over the next few days in the comments or reply to this email.
As always, thank you for reading!
I love you,
XoLauren
