The Owls Are Not What They Seem
Twin Peaks, spirit messengers, and a tarot reading for the lunar eclipse
Happy Lunar Eclipse in Virgo, Friends. I know that Friends doesn’t need to be capitalized, but why not? it looks better. This is my blog, and we play by My grammar rules.
I finished watching Twin Peaks season 2 last week, and I’d almost forgotten how deeply uncomfortable it feels to watch that final episode. Between the strobe lights, the backwards-spoken red room dialogue, and the things that happen, it wasn’t the best way to settle my mind before bed.
Even better, there’s been an owl visiting/hunting at my house for the past couple of weeks! In the pockets of time between the dark of night and dusk or dawn, a magnificent great-horned owl has been spotted perched atop the highest branches of our maple and oak trees.

I know they’re probably hunting at the edge of our field, but I can’t help but think this owl visitor is coming to check on me. Unlike the possessed owls in Twin Peaks, I’m certain this gorgeous creature isn’t inhabited by Bob or any other evil spirit.
These owl visits are special because I’ve felt a connection with the owl for a few years now. Owls visit me in dreams, meditations, and waking life. I’ve learned that owls are protective. They’re messengers from the spirit world. They might represent a brave soul who’s passed on. There’s more to learn, but I know for sure that when I see an owl, I feel a connection to it.
I noticed a glowing aura around this owl when I zoomed all the way in on the photo. I’ve been doing a lot of ancestor work, and this owl first appeared the night after I wrote the little tribute to Greg — a brave soul, indeed — so I think it’s particularly significant.
Do you guys ever think about dying?
It’s been exactly one year since my cousin’s husband, Greg, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. News like this is always devastating, but losing Greg felt exceptionally heartbreaking. He was younger than 40, a lovely human with a huge circle of friends, and an absolute pro at stay-at-home parenting. He was the only guy I’d ever heard my cousin, Katie…
What I mean is, I think it’s a magical owl. Therefore, it is a magical owl.
I don’t even mind that they’re hunting so close to my chicken coop, although I probably should. That reminds me, my girls are laying about a dozen beautiful eggs each day, and they make me feel like one of the richest ladies in the world.
Back to the moon…
Tarot Reading for the Lunar Eclipse in Virgo
The card I pulled for this Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is the Four of Swords.

The message I get from this card is to ground yourself in the self-care rituals that help you unwind and release any negative energetic lint you may have picked up throughout the day (or week, or month). Tend to the needs of your body, mind, and spirit, and do your best to block out whatever doesn’t fit within that description. Hydrate. Rest. Turn off your phone. Meditate. Make a blanket fort.
There are mixed opinions about working with full moons that have eclipses. Personally, I don’t work any magic at all during this time. I lay low and guard my energy. But that’s me. You do you.
This eclipse is occurring in Virgo, which is my rising sign. Virgo occupies my first house of self, vitality, and life force. This could be why, even hours before the eclipse, I already feel a heavy, dark energy. It’s not bad. Not malignant. Just intense.
I need my owl.
I don’t know about you, but tonight, I’m going to heed the advice of the Four of Swords and rest. I’m going to go to bed early and not wake up to view the Blood Moon, though I’m sure it will be glorious.
I’m going to keep my phone on do not disturb, as it has been for the past couple of days. I love it. I might do some gentle yoga and listen to a guided meditation from Mooji. I definitely won’t be watching Twin Peaks, although I did start the third season, and I know I’m going to love it.
David Lynch is big lunar eclipse energy. Rest in Power.
That’s all for now, sweet friends. I hope you have a peaceful and restorative beginning to this eclipse season!
Thank you for reading, and I love you,
