This Is How I Spent Five Days Unemployed
and the 6 of Wands brings some well-deserved recognition your way
Hey Friends! This week was full of transformation, and I’m not only talking about the gorgeous fall colors. But while we’re on the topic, here's a little eye candy for the leaf peepers:
I took this photo during the trail race I mentioned last week. ICYMI, you can read it here:
Between stopping to take pictures and generally being in horrible running shape, I finished the 8-mile race dead last. I’m cool with it. This was my first time finishing last, and, as my coworker said, I probably made the lady who finished ahead of me feel like a boss. She’s a mother of four training for the MDI Marathon later this month, so I’d say she’s a boss no matter what.
The race itself was quite possibly the least-organized running event I’ve ever been to. They didn’t have a course sweeper and didn’t seem to be keeping track of bib numbers, because when I finally crossed the finish line people asked if there was anyone behind me.
How am I supposed to know if there’s someone behind me?
Frankly, that’s not safe. As trail race directors, your most important job is to ensure everyone who runs into the woods comes back out. I’m not impressed.
Here’s How I Spent Five Days Unemployed
Sunday’s race was the opening event of a week free from work for this little trail tortoise. Another thing briefly mentioned in last week’s newsletter was that I’m no longer delivering mail. I’m still with USPS but transferred to the Kingdom of Clerks. If my first day was any indication of what’s to come, I absolutely made the right choice.
USPS does this thing where, any time you switch jobs like I did, you need to take a 5-day break in service. Technically, you get terminated and re-hired during this period. And, since it’s a government job that requires billions of paperwork, you get to kick back and relax while the change is made.
Considering how much of my time was consumed by mail delivery, I was very much looking forward to the week off. This is what I did:
Walked my dogs for about 2 hours every day (four dogs getting individual walks adds up quickly).
Brought a homemade (by Jason) chicken pot pie to extended family in Bar Harbor who are dealing with health issues.
Hung my snazzy new tarot fliers at coffee shops and community boards around town. (If you know anyone seeking insight or clarity, please share!)
Cleaned and decluttered part —not all — of my house, dropping off donations, tossing some stuff in the trash, and keeping a small pile to sell online.
Added more services on my tarot readings page, including the return of tarot + tapping sessions! (Again, I’m so grateful for your sharing.)
Got bitten by a deer tick. Currently waiting for the pharmacy to open on Monday so I can pick up my Doxycycline.
Baked sourdough granola and pumpkin spice muffins using Homestead and Chill’s recipes. I added chocolate chips to the muffins this time and they were a nice touch.
Made a small batch of homemade dog food using our surplus of fresh eggs, brown rice, frozen veggies, and a powdered nutritional supplement. It’s way too much work to make all their meals from scratch, but we like to add whole foods to their kibble when we can.
Added hoops and frostcloth to my fall garden beds.
Wrote into my new favorite podcast, Talkin Schitt, which is all about Schitt’s Creek, and was delighted to hear my email read on their latest episode! They just happened to be talking about one of my favorite episodes of Schitt’s Creek, New Car. Check it out on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple. Click the main link to find more places to listen.
It was a pretty restful and energizing week!
Onto your tarot card.
Six of Wands
All eyes are on you — or about to be — when the 6 of Wands shows up. If you’ve been working hard on something behind the scenes, this card can mean you’re ready to release it into the world. This is a great card for grand openings, product launches, and career promotions.
Even if you aren’t working on anything creative or career-wise, the 6 of Wands can mean you’ll be in the spotlight some other way. It’s a good sign for anyone ready to be seen, whether by romantic partners, creative collaborators, or your crew of homies.
Public recognition is another common theme. Maybe your post will go viral, your book will get a rave review, or your business will be featured in a major magazine.
Get ready for it.
Now is your moment to shine! The world is ready to honor and celebrate your awesomeness.
Thank you for being awesome, and thank you for reading!
The best way to support my work right now is to share this post and tell all your friends about my tarot services. This is especially true for those of you who’ve gotten readings in the past (thank you, I love you). And if you haven’t yet, you know where to find me!
